Washington, D.C. – The Center for Effective Lawmaking (CEL) has released its Legislative Effectiveness Scores for the 118th Congress, ranking U.S. Senator John Curtis (R-UT) among the top five most effective Republican lawmakers in the U.S. House of Representatives during his final term in that body.

Curtis ranked fifth overall among House Republicans, with a Legislative Effectiveness Score (LES) of 4.293—placing him well above the average for members of either party and outperforming many committee and subcommittee chairs.

“This recognition is really a tribute to my incredible staff,” said Senator Curtis. “Behind every policy win is a team of dedicated public servants who care deeply about solving problems the right way. Utahns expect real results. And now, as a Senator, I remain committed to finding consensus and building allies and alliances to continue delivering for the Beehive State.”

Background:

The report cites that during the 118th Congress, Curtis introduced 48 bills, three of which became law, including the Colorado River Salinity Control Fix Act and the Great Salt Lake Stewardship Act. Additionally, key provisions of three other Curtis-sponsored bills—the Advanced Nuclear Reactor Prize Act, the Connect Our Parks Act—were incorporated into larger legislative packages that also became law.

The Center for Effective Lawmaking, a joint initiative of the University of Virginia and Vanderbilt University, releases nonpartisan evaluations of lawmakers based on 15 legislative metrics. The rankings account for both quantity and quality of legislative activity, including how often a lawmaker’s bills move through committee, pass the House, and are enacted into law.

Curtis’s consistent track record of high performance led CEL to highlight him as a legislator who “continued a pattern of lawmaking effectiveness,” having also ranked “above expectations” in both the 116th and 117th Congresses.

Now serving in the U.S. Senate, Curtis continues the same pragmatic, results-oriented approach in the upper chamber.
